Why Insurance
When you acquire shipping insurance with Five Cargo, you are securing protection against unforeseen loss or damage during transportation. In the unlikely event of loss or damage, the sender will receive compensation beyond the standard maximum liability coverage—ensuring peace of mind and added security for every shipment.
Senders notice
1. Purchasing supplementary insurance does not guarantee compensation for indirect losses or damages, nor does it ensure full reimbursement in all cases, as the insured amount may differ from the final compensation. Additionally, insurance coverage does not guarantee that your shipment will be completely free from damage or loss.
2. The sender must not obtain insurance for items that are excluded or ineligible for coverage. For full details, please refer to our Terms and Conditions for Services and Deliveries. In the event of an accidental insurance purchase—whether due to the sender’s error or a system misunderstanding—the coverage will be considered void from the start, and any insurance amount paid will be refunded.
Insurance Clauses
As per stated in our T&C:
1. If the declared value of an item exceeds Five Cargo’s maximum compensation limit, the sender is strongly advised to purchase insurance. For shipments without insurance coverage, any compensation will be subject to Clause 17 – Limited Liability, as stated in our Terms & Conditions.
2. In addition to Clause 11.3 and all other applicable terms outlined in our Terms and Conditions, the following provisions shall be considered part of the agreement and/or serve as formal notice to the sender:
- Five Cargo provides insurance for the sender’s items at a fee of 11% of the parcel’s declared value. The maximum coverage for any shipment is capped at RM2,000.00.
- The sender is responsible for ensuring that insurance is purchased based on the accurate declared value or purchase invoice of the shipment.
- Five Cargo is not obligated to advise whether a shipment should be insured. The sender may choose to obtain supplementary insurance at their own discretion and expense.
- The sender must provide a complete and honest declaration of the contents and value of any item when purchasing insurance from Five Cargo. Five Cargo is not liable for indirect or additional costs, such as freight charges, or for any consequences arising from false, misleading, inconsistent, incomplete, or otherwise inaccurate declarations.
- Once the shipment charge has been paid in full or delivery has commenced, additional insurance cannot be purchased or accepted. If a parcel is not insurable or exceeds the insurance limits set by Five Cargo or its insurer, Five Cargo will refund or forfeit the insurance payment, regardless of whether the charge was collected intentionally or by mistake.
Purchasing insurance does not guarantee that a shipment will be completely free from damage or loss. Insurance coverage only affects or modifies the total amount of compensation in the event of a claim.
3. For extremely time-sensitive shipments where loss or delay may result in consequential damages, or if a higher insured amount is needed, the sender must consult their own insurance agent or broker. Five Cargo does not provide coverage for such liabilities.
4. If the actual value of the shipment differs from the declared value, Five Cargo will not be liable for the full insurance claim. Compensation, in such cases, will be based on the lowest of the actual value, market value, or insured value. Partial damage or loss will be compensated proportionally. The final compensation amount will be determined at the discretion of Five Cargo and/or its insurer.
